How much does it cost to play Pebble Beach? The green fee at Pebble Beach Golf Links is $695¹ per player for a round between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027, plus $60¹ for a cart. The catch is the calendar: a tee time guaranteed more than 48 hours ahead comes only with a stay of at least two nights at one of the resort's hotels, where rooms start at about $800¹ a night.

Pebble Beach is expensive, but it is not the top public price among the famous courses compared here, and the gap between a famous round and an ordinary one is wide. This page sets the Pebble Beach bill beside other championship courses and the Old Course at St Andrews, then follows the money to caddies, tournament winners, US golf prices since 2000 and the people who run the country's golf courses.

The price of a round at Pebble Beach

Green fee, cart and caddie

The green fee pays for one 18-hole round for one player and nothing else. It rose on April 1, 2026 from $675² to $695, an increase of $20³, and applies until the end of March 2027.¹ A cart costs $60 per player on top.

Walking with a caddie replaces the cart. From May 1, 2026 a caddie costs $175⁴ for one bag and $250⁴ for two, and the recommended gratuity is $75⁴ per player. A forecaddie, who walks ahead of a group that rides in carts, costs about $52.50² per person, with a minimum of three players.

The two-night rule

A tee time more than 48 hours ahead is guaranteed only to guests of The Lodge at Pebble Beach, Casa Palmero or The Inn at Spanish Bay. The minimum stay is two nights, or three nights from Thursday to Sunday in September, October and November.¹ Players who do not stay can book within 48 hours of the round, pay the same green fee and hope a slot is free.

Put together, the cheapest walk-up round with a cart costs $755³ per player. With a caddie and the recommended gratuity it reaches $945³. The guaranteed version, two nights at about $800 plus one round, comes to about $2,295³, and a three-night autumn weekend to about $3,095³.¹

How the price has climbed since 2019

In 2019 the same round cost $550⁵, a cart $45⁵ and a caddie $95⁵ per bag. The green fee has since risen by $145³, or 26.4%³, and the single-bag caddie fee has almost doubled. The resort's other courses followed the same path in 2020: Spyglass Hill went from $395 to $415 and The Links at Spanish Bay from $290 to $295, while Del Monte cost $110⁵ in 2019.⁵

Other extras were cheaper then too. A forecaddie cost $47.50⁵ per person and rental clubs $95⁵, and guests of The Lodge rode in a cart at no charge. Rooms at The Lodge ran from $940⁵ to $6,940⁵ a night.

How Pebble Beach compares with other famous courses

Pebble Beach is not the dearest public round on the list. The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, home of THE PLAYERS, starts at $775⁶ per player from September to May and $550⁶ from June to August. That price includes a cart, a forecaddie for the group and range balls, so part of the $80³ gap to Pebble Beach buys what Pebble charges separately.⁶

At St Andrews the Old Course cost £340 in the 2025-26 high season, about $449³ at that year's exchange rate.⁷⁸ On the Oregon coast, the five courses of Bandon Dunes charge a day guest $425⁹ from June to September, walking only.

The fee is only half the story; the booking rules decide who can pay it. Pinehurst sells No. 2 only inside packages, with a $250¹² premium per round and a minimum stay of two nights, and most weekends from mid-March to mid-November need three.¹² Augusta National has no public tee times and no public green fee at all: its roughly 300 members invite their guests.¹³ Kiawah Island's Ocean Course and Whistling Straits publish no dollar green fee either; the price is given only on booking or on request.¹⁴¹⁵

A Pinehurst package shows what a stay-and-play trip costs in full. The two-night package runs from $1,840¹² to $2,760¹² per person, depending on the hotel and on whether the room is shared, before the No. 2 premium, tax and the resort fee. TPC Sawgrass works the other way round: a room is optional, but it moves the booking window from 14 days to up to 12 months ahead.⁶

Resident rates at municipal championship courses

Two famous public courses, one run by a city and one by a state, charge locals far less. On Torrey Pines South, a San Diego resident pays $90¹⁰ for a weekend round and a visitor $322¹⁰, 3.6³ times more; on weekdays the ratio is 3.5³. At Bethpage Black, a New York resident pays $80¹¹ at the weekend and a non-resident $160¹¹, 2³ times as much.¹¹

Twilight rounds cut the price again. On Torrey Pines South a resident pays $44 for a weekday twilight round and a visitor $156.¹⁰ New York residents who are seniors or juniors pay $47¹¹ for 18 holes on Bethpage Black.

The extras that add up

Around the green fee sits a layer of smaller charges. A resident of San Diego first buys a $25¹⁰ yearly golf ID card, and every advance booking costs $32 for a resident or $50 for a visitor.¹⁰ At Kiawah Island's Ocean Course, where no dollar green fee is published, the recommended gratuity for a walking caddie is $120¹⁴ per player and rental clubs cost $85¹⁴.

When to play: prices by month

Season moves the price more than almost anything a player can control. At Bandon Dunes a resort guest pays $130⁹ in January and December and $375⁹ from June to September, 2.9³ times more. A day guest pays $50³ more than a resort guest in every month, and a premium day-guest tee time booked more than 21 days ahead costs up to $475⁹ in summer.

Oregon residents pay the resort-guest rate, but only for tee times booked within 21 days. Juniors under 22 play free with an adult from Mother's Day weekend to July 31.⁹ A resort guest playing in May pays $340, the same as in October, so the shoulder months cost less than summer without the winter weather.

The par-3 courses follow the same curve at a lower level. Bandon Preserve and Shorty's cost $60⁹ in winter and $125⁹ in summer, and a second full round on the same day costs a resort guest between $65 and $190.⁹

St Andrews: the price of the Old Course

The Old Course is a public course, and its fee is set by a trust. In the season from April 14, 2025 to March 31, 2026, a visiting adult paid £340⁷ in high season, £240⁷ in the shoulder season and £170⁷ in winter. A resident of the town paid £85⁷ in high season. The Old Course is closed on Sundays and asks for a handicap certificate.⁷

The Links Trust runs six other courses. The 9-hole Balgove costs £15⁷, about $20³, and Strathtyrum £55⁷.

In pounds, each course has three seasonal prices. The high-season Old Course fee is twice the winter fee, and the gap is similar on the other full-length courses.

The Old Course price has risen every season since 2022. From £270¹⁶ in 2022-23 it reached £340 in 2025-26, up 25.9%³. In dollars the climb looks steeper, from about $334³ to about $449, because the pound also strengthened against the dollar over the same years.⁸ The trend line below rests on only four seasons, so it is a short fit.

Even after the rise, Pebble Beach costs 1.55³ times a high-season round on the Old Course. The gap buys no extras: both fees cover the round alone.

The Castle and New courses rose at a similar pace, by £10 to £20 a season.

For regular players, St Andrews sells yearly tickets, the closest thing to a membership on a famous links. An adult Open Links Ticket cost £1,249⁷ for 2025-26, about $1,648³, or the price of 3.7³ high-season rounds on the Old Course. A town resident paid £386⁷.

How much do caddies make at Pebble Beach

More than 300⁴ caddies work at Pebble Beach. Until spring 2026 they kept most of the bag fee: on a $220 double bag, a caddie took home $188⁴ before tips. On May 1, 2026 the resort raised the fees and switched the caddies to an hourly wage of $17.54⁴ to $24.98⁴, by seniority, plus tips.

The change split the caddie yard. One caddie's pay for a single bag fell from $132 to roughly $99 to $129 before tips, while the resort says overall gross caddie pay rose by more than 12%⁴ and that over 90%⁴ of caddies earn more.⁴ For the player the price went up: $15³ more for a single bag and $30³ more for a double.

Other resort courses handle caddies differently. At Whistling Straits the caddie fee is $90 per person, and Kiawah Island charges no separate caddie fee but recommends a $120 gratuity for a walking caddie.¹⁵¹⁴

Pebble Beach Pro-Am winners by year

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has been played since 1937, when Sam Snead won $500¹⁹. In 2026 Collin Morikawa won with 266 strokes, 22 under par, one shot ahead of Min Woo Lee and Sepp Straka.²⁰ Since 2024 the event has been a signature event, with an 80-player field and a $20 million¹⁹ purse, 2.22³ times the $9 million of 2023.

The winner takes 18%³ of the purse, so the winner's share jumped from $1,620,000 in 2023 to $3,600,000. In 2000, when Tiger Woods won, it was $720,000¹⁹, a fifth of today's prize.¹⁹ The trend line is fitted from 2000 and does not know about the 2024 step.

Before 2024 the purse grew in small steps: $6,400,000 in 2012, $7,800,000 in 2020 and $8,700,000 in 2022.¹⁹

Prices overall rose faster, by 87.0%³ over the same 25 years, so fees for playing sports grew more slowly than living costs.²¹ Since 2019 the gap has held: all prices rose 25.9%³ while the sports-fee index rose 18.5%.

Equipment went the other way. Sports equipment prices fell 22.0%³ from 2000 to 2025, with a rise in 2021 and 2022 that faded afterward.²¹ The same two years lifted all prices: the all-items index rose from 150.3 in 2020 to 170.0 in 2022, and the sports-fee index from 133.2 to 139.1.²¹ Sports gear got cheaper in money terms, not only after inflation, while the sports-fee index kept rising.

The business behind the green fee

Ownership is spread evenly across four legal forms. Nonprofits ran 2,406²³ establishments in 2023, 23.9%³ of the total, close to the number run by C-corporations and by S-corporations.

Private golf courses and country clubs had an average of 442,227²⁴ jobs in 2025, 55.9%³ more than in 2001 and 19.1%³ more than in 2019. Employment fell 13.0%³ in 2020 and recovered by 2022. The two count establishments differently: this series counts the reporting units of unemployment-insurance accounts and runs to 2025, while the register counts locations with paid staff during the year and ends in 2023.

Average annual pay rose from $17,824²⁴ in 2001 to $37,606²⁴ in 2025, up 111.0%³. In 2020 pay rose to $30,180²⁴ while jobs fell; that jump may reflect the loss of lower-paid seasonal jobs, which lifts the average without any raise.

The weekly figure makes the Pebble Beach price concrete. In 2025 the average golf-course worker earned $723²⁴ a week, so one round at Pebble Beach costs 0.96³ of a week's pay. The industry paid $16.63³ billion in wages that year, against $5.06³ billion in 2001, when the average weekly wage was $343²⁴.

Golf jobs state by state

Golf-course pay varies widely by state. Hawaii paid the most, $49,883²⁴ a year on average in 2025, and Iowa the least, $22,318²⁴, a gap of $27,565³. Short northern seasons may pull the annual average down where many jobs last only part of the year.

North Dakota paid $22,576²⁴, just above Iowa, and New York $48,190²⁴, just below Hawaii. Connecticut, at $47,790²⁴, completed the top three.

Florida is the capital of golf employment. Its courses and clubs employed 54,408²⁴ people in 2025, 12.3%³ of the national total, ahead of California and Texas.²⁴

Counting businesses gives a slightly different order. Florida again leads with 934²⁴ establishments, but New York and Michigan rank higher than their job counts suggest. Wisconsin completes the top ten with 354²⁴.

Who works at golf facilities and what they earn

Pay by job is published only for a wider industry that adds fitness centers, ski areas, marinas and bowling alleys to golf courses and country clubs. In that industry, the median worker earned $36,740²⁵ a year in May 2025. Groundskeepers, the people who keep the fairways, earned a median $36,190²⁵, and general and operations managers $75,520²⁵.

Service jobs sit lower on the scale. Waiters and waitresses earned a median $35,150²⁵ and bartenders $32,720²⁵, while coaches and scouts earned $46,900²⁵. Amusement and recreation attendants, the largest group among the jobs listed here, earned $31,060²⁵.

How many Americans play golf

Demand for golf is strong. In 2025, 29.1 million²⁶ Americans aged 6 and over played on a golf course, and another 19 million²⁶ played only off course, at driving ranges, simulators and entertainment venues, 48.1 million³ in all.²⁷ Participation grew 41%²⁷ from 2019 to 2025, and another 21.2 million²⁶ non-golfers say they are interested in playing.

Women made up 8.1 million²⁶ of the on-course golfers and young adults aged 18 to 34 made up 6.3 million²⁶, while 3.3 million²⁶ were beginners.²⁷

The supply side is large and mostly open to everyone. The country has about 16,000²⁶ courses at 14,000²⁶ facilities, and about 75%²⁶ of them are open to the public. Golfers played more than 500 million²⁶ rounds in 2025, the sixth year in a row above that mark.
