When Structure A is full, drivers are sent to Structure B, which also holds the electric-vehicle chargers.1

Whether a day means 24 hours or a calendar day is not specified on the rate page.1 A reserved stay that runs over is charged at the drive-up rate, and leaving early earns no partial refund.4 The rules that matter for an overnight or longer stay are in the table below.

How Long Beach Airport parking prices have risen since 2021

Five years ago the structures cost much less. Until September 30, 2021, the daily maximum was $197 in Structure A and $177 in Structure B; the city's fee schedule for fiscal 2022 proposed $217 and $197, and proposed raising the monthly parking card for tenant employees from $307 to $407.7 The fiscal 2026 budget added $58 to the daily fee and $18 to the hourly fee, which took Structure A to $303 and Structure B to $253 on October 1, 2025; before that step they were $255 and $205, with $35 an hour. October 2026 repeats the step.

From fiscal 2021 to October 2026 the Structure A maximum rises 84.2%5 and the Structure B maximum 76.5%5. The hourly rate goes from $35 to $51 in two years.

The city says why. Parking increases were introduced to offset rising operating costs, to match fees at comparable airports and to avoid raising other charges on the airport's business partners; the fiscal 2026 step was expected to bring in about $2.7 million8 a year.8 For October 2026 the city's fee schedule puts the extra income at $862,0002 from the Structure A daily rate, $678,0002 from Structure B and $4,5552 from each hourly rate, about $1.55 million5 a year in all, or 11.8%5 of fiscal 2025 parking income. The city calls these estimates theoretical.

Parking fees are the airport's second-largest source of operating revenue.9 In fiscal 2025 they brought in $13,118,6019, or 21.43%5 of $61,227,8139 in operating revenue. Landing, gate and ramp fees earned $17,579,6749, land and building rentals $11,140,4379, concessions $11,023,0199 and other fees and charges $8,366,0829.9

What the data shows
  • Parking fees brought in $13.12M.
  • Landing, gate and ramp fees led with $17.58M.
  • Parking earned $1.98M more than land and building rentals.

Parking income has swung with traffic. Fees were $8,726,17010 in fiscal 2011 and reached an early high of $9,853,56210 in fiscal 2012, slid to $7,719,56210 in fiscal 2015 as passenger numbers fell, recovered to $10,050,09311 in fiscal 2018, and dropped to $4,189,02712 in fiscal 2021 as the pandemic emptied the terminal. Fiscal 2024's $13,442,24412 is the highest of the 15 years. In fiscal 2025, before the October 2025 rate step took effect, fees fell 2.4%5 to $13,118,6019 as boardings fell 7.2%5: still 42.1%5 above pre-pandemic fiscal 2019 and 3.135 times the 2021 low.9 The trend line is fitted over fiscal 2016-2025 and includes the pandemic dip; a line fitted over all 15 years would reach only about $14.1 million5 by 2050, barely above today's level.

  • Parking fees peaked at $13.44M in fiscal 2024.
  • The low was $4.19M in fiscal 2021.
  • Fiscal 2025 slipped to $13.12M.

Parking's weight in the airport's budget has not returned to where it was. It made up 26.92%5 of operating revenue in fiscal 2011 and 14.5%5 in fiscal 2021; the fiscal 2025 share of 21.43%5 is above the pandemic years but below every year from 2011 to 2015, because landing fees and concessions grew faster.

Parking revenue per passenger

Dividing parking fees by the passengers who boarded in the same fiscal year gives a price signal that strips out traffic swings. It was $5.695 in fiscal 2011, stayed near $6.005 to $6.065 from 2012 to 2015, fell to $5.015 in fiscal 2018 when traffic peaked, and rose to $6.495 in fiscal 2024 and $6.825 in fiscal 2025, the highest of the 15 years, as parking income fell less than traffic. Boarding counts include connecting passengers and travelers who arrive by taxi, ride-hailing or rental car, so this is an average across every departing traveler rather than a price per parked car.5

Airline payments per enplaned passenger were $6.6510 in fiscal 2011 and $13.189 in fiscal 2025, 1.985 times as much.9 The budget targeted $12.758 for fiscal 2025 and projects $12.878 for fiscal 2026, aiming to keep the figure between $12 and $13 to stay attractive to carriers;8 the fiscal 2025 actual landed above that range. In fiscal 2025 parking brought in 51.7%5 as much per passenger as the airlines paid.

The costs behind the increase

Running the airport has become steadily dearer. Operating expenses, including depreciation, were $35,719,15710 in fiscal 2011 and $72,165,4299 in fiscal 2025, 2.025 times as much, and 9.3%5 more than in fiscal 2024. Operating revenue did not keep pace: fiscal 2025 closed with an operating loss of $10,937,6169 before passenger facility charges, grants and other non-operating income, against $4,204,98912 a year earlier.9 The fiscal 2026 budget added $758,3188 for parking management services, and in fiscal 2025 the airport installed a new parking access and revenue control system, and the solar canopies on top of both structures generated more than 3.2 million8 kilowatt-hours in their first year.8 New LED lights in Structure B cut its electricity use by 44%13 in January 2026 against January 2025.13

Passenger traffic and parking demand

Parking demand follows the number of people flying out. The airport boarded 1,412,63610 passengers in fiscal 2006 and between 1,276,67910 and 1,643,38310 a year from 2007 to 2016. Traffic then climbed to 2,006,29211 in fiscal 2018; the pandemic cut it to 767,20712 in fiscal 2021, and fiscal 2024 set the record at 2,072,05812, 1.475 times fiscal 2006.12 Fiscal 2025 fell 7.2%5 to 1,923,3689.9 The table carries no trend line: a straight line through these years is dragged down by 2020-2021 and would end below the 2024 count, which is not a plausible path.

2026 is running lower still. From January to July the airport boarded 992,37316 passengers against 1,095,30716 a year earlier, down 9.4%5, with seats offered down 16.7%5. Every month was below 2025, and June fell most, by 13.7%5.16 With fewer passengers, the October rate increase carries more of the airport's parking income.

Airlines and flight slots

Airline service at the airport runs on a fixed number of allocated flight slots, so the carriers holding them decide how many travelers need a parking space. In fiscal 2011-2015 JetBlue carried 79%10 to 83%10 of the airport's passengers.10 JetBlue left on October 6, 2020, and by fiscal 2024 Southwest carried 91%12 of 2,072,05812 enplanements.12 In fiscal 2025 it boarded 1,708,1879 of 1,923,3689, or 88.8%5.9

FAQ

Does booking Long Beach Airport parking online cost extra?

Yes. Online reservations carry a fee of 10% of the booking, up to $5.4

Can I park an RV at Long Beach Airport?

No. Motorhomes, RVs and other oversized vehicles do not fit either parking structure; motorcycles are welcome.4

How long can I leave a car at Long Beach Airport?

Up to 30 days. Longer stays are towed unless the airport has prior notice.4

Is there free waiting parking at Long Beach Airport?

Yes. The Cell Phone Waiting Lot at Wardlow Road and Lakewood Boulevard is free for up to one hour.1

Which Long Beach Airport structure is cheaper?

Structure B. Its daily maximum is $5 below Structure A's, both now and from October 1, 2026.1

Can I charge an electric car while parked at Long Beach Airport?

Yes. Structure B has 12 ChargePoint stations on its first level, first come, first served.1

Conclusions

  1. Two $5 steps in two years. Structure A goes from $255 before October 2025 to $351 from October 2026, and Structure B from $205 to $301; since fiscal 2021 the Structure A maximum has risen 84.2%5.
  2. Fewer passengers put more weight on the rate. In fiscal 2025 boardings fell 7.2%5 and parking fees 2.4%5, and January-July 2026 boardings were down another 9.4%5. The October increase will carry more of the parking income; the city's $1.55 million5 a year estimate is theoretical.
  3. Parking's share of airport income has shrunk. It made up 21.43%5 of operating revenue in fiscal 2025, down from 26.92%5 in fiscal 2011, while operating expenses were 2.025 times their fiscal 2011 level.
  4. For a short stay the hourly rate decides the bill. At $51 an hour, six hours in Structure B already cost the full $305 day.
  5. Long Beach stays mid-priced among terminal garages. Its $351 is above John Wayne's $3025 and below San Diego's $4026.

Methodology

  • Rates: current, October 2026 and, where a fee document exists, since fiscal 2021.
  • Finance: fiscal 2011-2025 (fiscal years end September 30).
  • Traffic: fiscal 2006-2025, calendar 2024-2025 and January-July 2026.

Definition. Parking rates are the posted hourly rate and daily maximum per car in Long Beach Airport's two public parking structures, plus the valet and cell-phone-lot terms, read from the airport's pages on September 25-26, 2026. Rates in force until September 30, 2026 are shown as current; the October 1 and November 1, 2026 rates as announced. Parking revenue is the 'Parking Fees' line of the airport's operating results; enplanements are boarding passengers.

Data sources. Long Beach Airport rate page, parking guide and reservation notice; City of Long Beach fee schedules for fiscal 2022 and 2027 and the fiscal 2026 airport budget; continuing disclosure reports for fiscal 2015, 2020, 2024 and 2025; the airport's monthly commercial flight activity reports (August 2025 to July 2026); the valet operator's rate card; for the comparison section only, official parking pages of 10 other airports, the FAA CY 2024 enplanement file and the BLS price index for parking fees and tolls.

Calculations. Revenue per enplaned passenger = parking fees / the same fiscal year's enplanements. Parking share = parking fees / total operating revenue. Pre-October 2025 rates = October 2025 rates less the fiscal 2026 budget's $5 daily and $1 hourly increase. Months missing from the monthly reports = difference of year-to-date totals. Stay costs = days x the daily maximum. Trend lines are ordinary least-squares fits over the stated years, extended to 2050 with a 95% prediction range; our calculation, not a forecast. Series whose fit ends below the latest actual are shown as tables.

Limitations. Fiscal 2023-2024 parking rates were not found in a published city document. Airline shares for fiscal 2025 are our calculation from the printed passenger counts; the report's printed shares do not add up. Fiscal 2020 figures follow the later, restated report. Enplanements include connecting passengers and travelers who never park. The monthly report for July 2025 printed a year-to-date total that does not match the other reports and is not used. Rates change; check the airport before travel.
